Hypnotherapy is a very effective treatment for many health conditions and problems. For some, you may be looking to hypnosis as a last resort after trying conventional methods of treatment, many people are surprised at the extent and speed of improvement through hypnotherapy. IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is one of those conditions which responds very well to hypnotherapy. Pain management can be achieved through hypnosis and many other areas of health and well being.

The dangers, damage to health and health risks of smoking cigarettes, cigars or pipes are so severe that the most useful and important thing you can do to improve your health if you are a smoker - is to stop smoking.

Nicotine reduces the amount of oxygen in your blood, thereby causing an effect on your breathing and heart rate. The constant and permanent damage caused to the tiny alveoli in your lungs reduces the oxygen supply and results in an increase in blood pressure and a heightened risk of heart attack

Financial costs of smoking are also high with the tax on cigarette and tobacco products going up every year. The inconvenience of always having to check you have some cigarettes and a lighter available and sometimes travelling many miles to buy more, even going out in the rain or snow just so you can up supplies to ensure you can feed your habit - even though each cigarette only gives you the desire for the next one!

Being free from addiction is a great benefit. I know this well from personal experience as I myself am an ex-smoker of many years. Your sense of taste and smell returns and is enjoyable once again. Knowing that you don’t smell of cigarettes makes you feel good about yourself. Freedom from guilt about smoking is a wonderful feeling.

Healthy Lifestyle There are so many temptations in our busy stressful lives and it is so easy to establish negative patterns of behaviour which have a detrimental effect upon our health and well being. Habits such as unhealthy eating, too much fast food or take-aways, snacking in the evenings, drinking too much, smoking, lack of exercise, and in addition, leading a stressful life without taking proper care of yourself.

These negative behaviours catch up with us, and before we know it we need that bottle of wine, or end up eating fast food several times a week. This kind of habit is all to easy to establish but the good news is that with hypnotherapy these habits are much easier to break than you might imagine. Often just one session of hypnosis is all that is required. For some harder to break or longer established habits an additional session may be required.

IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Dr Whorrell at Wythenshawe Hospital in Greater Manchester has pioneered the use of hypnotherapy as a successful treatment for IBS.

IBS is a complicated condition which requires a thorough approach through hypnotherapy to address the issues around this condition. For some people there are some bad memories and anxieties that have become deep rooted and cause a perpetuation of the anxieties of living day to day with this debilitating condition. for some it can have a devastating effect on their lives. IBS can be accompanied by the development of social phobias, generalised anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, claustrophobia, confidence issues, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, employment and therefore financial problems.

Sometimes many sessions are required. In simple cases 4 or 5 sessions can create a dramatic improvement and the use of self hypnosis consistently can mean just occasional top up sessions are required. With some cases, there are many underlying issues and complexities which need to be addressed, as well as an alleviation, but also a degree of acceptance of the fear of problem situations arising.

The Underlying issues

When I see clients about a problem like insomnia I am expecting to find one or more underlying causes. Successful treatment relies on addressing these issues. There are also many changes that can help which have nothing to do with hypnosis, such as creating a nice atmosphere, using earplugs or an eye mask. Occasionally, if the person is under immense stress it can also be a good idea, to see your doctor for some temporary medication. A lot of problems are simply about habits - we are all creatures of habit, but we can change our habits and replace bad habits with good ones!


Depression Clinical Depression

This is a serious medical condition which should be referred to your GP. Hypnotherapy can help with anxiety and depression but often works best when used in conjunction with medication, working with your GP you can gradually move down to a lower dose and finally come off medication, if you advise your GP you are using hypnotherapy to help, often they will be very supportive of that.

Many of my clients come to me with this approach, they find it works well, as long as they use the self hypnosis recordings provided and be aware that a few sessions are required, this is not something that can be dramatically affected in one or two sessions, it requires a commitment, and determination to get better.
